Matt Duffy wakes up in a military hospital in Iraq after suffering a traumatic brain injury while he was on patrol. The brain injury has caused him to suffer from memory loss, particularly of the moments leading up to the blast. Matt can recall seeing Ali, a young Iraqi boy he befriended while with his unit, just before everything went blank. While in the hospital, he discovers that Ali has died.
